Baby Blues vs Postnatal Depression

Baby Blues

  • Starts within first few days after birth
  • Usually lasts up to 2 weeks
  • Mood swings, tearfulness, irritability
  • You can still enjoy your baby
  • Gets better on its own

Postnatal Depression

  • Can start any time in the first year
  • Lasts longer than 2 weeks
  • Persistent low mood, hopelessness
  • May struggle to bond or enjoy things
  • Needs support — treatment works well
