Gentle potty-training guidance
Accidents are a normal part of learning. Stay calm, avoid blame or pressure, and praise your child's effort whether or not they manage a wee or poo.
Hard or pellet-like poo, pain, straining, bleeding, fewer than three poos a week, or runny soiling can be signs of constipation. Ask your health visitor or GP for advice early if you are concerned.
Read current advice from the NHS (opens in a new tab) and ERIC, The Children's Bowel & Bladder Charity (opens in a new tab).
Guidance only: This tracker does not diagnose health conditions. Speak to your health visitor or GP about concerns regarding your child's bowel, bladder or development.
