Weaning Tracker
Track your baby's first foods, log allergen introductions, and keep a record of what they love (and what they really don't!).
The NHS recommends starting weaning at around 6 months. Before this, breast milk or formula provides everything your baby needs.
Signs your baby might be ready include: sitting up with support, good head control, hand-eye coordination (grabbing food and bringing it to their mouth), and showing interest in food.
Introducing allergens
The NHS recommends introducing common allergens one at a time, from around 6 months. This makes it easier to spot any reactions. The main allergens to introduce are:
- Cow's milk (in cooking/food, not as a drink)
- Eggs (well-cooked)
- Peanuts (crushed or as smooth peanut butter)
- Tree nuts (crushed or as nut butters)
- Wheat (in bread, pasta, cereals)
- Fish and shellfish
- Sesame (in hummus, tahini)
- Soya
Once introduced without reaction, keep offering these foods regularly (around twice a week) to maintain tolerance.
If your baby has eczema or a known allergy, speak to your GP or health visitor before introducing allergens.
